The weight difference is real, but limited

Choose weather behavior before brand
The standard Moab 3 combines pig suede with breathable mesh and a breathable mesh lining. It has no waterproof membrane in its feature list. That makes it the more coherent option for warm conditions, dry trails and buyers who prefer a non-waterproof shoe that can vent through its upper. It is not the Moab 3 Waterproof or Moab 3 GORE-TEX sold elsewhere in the same collection.
The X Ultra 5 GTX uses a GORE-TEX membrane, Matryx upper construction and stitched upper. Salomon classifies it as waterproof and aimed at mixed, rocky and technical terrain. A waterproof low shoe can help with wet grass, shallow puddles and sustained rain below the collar. Water can still enter over the low collar, and a membrane cannot make poor route judgment or deep crossings safe.
