For an existing Sawyer Squeeze, choose the CNOC Vecto with a 28 mm neck. For a standard Katadyn BeFree, choose the 42 mm version. Pick the connection first and capacity second. A larger bag with the wrong neck does not solve your collection problem, and a working pouch that already meets your needs may make either purchase unnecessary.
This comparison addresses the replacement or extra collection bag after you have chosen a filter. If that decision is still open, start with our Sawyer Squeeze versus Katadyn BeFree comparison . We checked current maker documents on 2 October 2026; we have not used these bags or tested flow, leaks, puncture resistance or long-term durability.

Match the bag to the filter you already own
| Your equipment or problem | Bag choice | Purchase stop |
|---|---|---|
| Sawyer Squeeze with a damaged pouch or a need for a separate collection bag | 28 mm Vecto | The 42 mm neck is not the direct connection for this filter. Keep a sound existing pouch if it already does the job. |
| Standard Katadyn BeFree with a need for additional collection capacity | 42 mm Vecto | The 28 mm version is not the direct connection. Keep the existing flask if its capacity and collection routine are sufficient. |
| BeFree AC, a gravity system, or another exact filter model | Confirm that exact model’s instructions before choosing | The name BeFree, a similar-looking opening or a diameter alone does not establish compatibility for every system. |
| Working collection container, sufficient capacity and no collection difficulty | Neither | A new bag adds another item to maintain without solving an identified problem. |
CNOC’s current 28 mm Vecto specification explicitly names the Sawyer Squeeze, Mini and Micro. Its 42 mm specification names the BeFree. Sawyer independently states that the Squeeze fits standard 28 mm threaded bottles . The matrix follows those named connections; it does not certify unlisted filters or adapters.
The numbers refer to the screw neck where the filter attaches. Both versions also have a wide opening closed by a slider. You can open that end for collection rather than trying to fill through the neck. Whether that is worth buying depends on the difficulty you actually have with your existing container, not a claim that this bag filters faster.
Keep the dirty-water connection separate from the clean side
Think of your setup in this order: collection bag → filter inlet → filter outlet → clean receiving container. The 28 mm or 42 mm choice here concerns the first connection. It does not prove that a hose, coupling or bottle fits the outlet.
For example, buying the right Vecto for a Sawyer does not establish that you can screw your clean bottle directly onto the other side of the filter. A clean-side coupling is a separate compatibility question. Check the exact filter instructions and any accessory’s stated purpose before adding one. This article does not specify a gravity rig or an adapter assembly.
Designate the Vecto used for untreated water as your dirty container. Keep its opening and exterior away from the clean bottle mouth and protected outlet. A larger bag is still a collection container, not a filter or an additional treatment stage. Changing bags does not expand the filter’s treatment claims; the filter comparison covers those limits separately.
Choose 2 L or 3 L by the collection job
The following figures are the published empty weights for the standard Vecto models, not measurements of the exact Amazon units. Capacity is nominal. Neither table includes a filter, clean bottle, coupling or other accessory.
| Neck and capacity | Maker-listed empty weight | Extra capacity versus the same-neck 2 L bag | Extra empty weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 28 mm, 2 L | 79 g | Baseline | Baseline |
| 28 mm, 3 L | 91 g | 1 L | 12 g |
| 42 mm, 2 L | 87 g | Baseline | Baseline |
| 42 mm, 3 L | 96 g | 1 L | 9 g |
Sources: the current 28 mm and 42 mm specification sections. The differences are our subtraction of those figures. Check the generation on the listing: VectoX and VectoPlus are separate products, and their weights should not be substituted here.
The extra empty weight is small, but filling that extra litre adds roughly 1 kg of water. Using the listed figures and that approximation, a 28 mm 2 L bag holding 2 L is about 2,079 g; the 3 L bag holding the same 2 L is about 2,091 g. Filling the 3 L bag to 3 L makes it about 3,091 g. Those are arithmetic examples, not measured loads or drinking recommendations.
Use this decision worksheet once your route’s water plan is established:
| Collection job | Capacity judgment | What to count separately |
|---|---|---|
| Collect up to 2 L at a time, then filter into your drinking containers | A 2 L collection bag covers that nominal batch | Capacity and actual water in the clean containers |
| Collect more than 2 L in one batch for an established carry or camp plan | Consider 3 L if that avoids a collection step you want to avoid | Filled mass, space in the pack and the rest of your treatment kit |
| Have 3 L of clean-container space, but can refill the collection bag at the source | A 3 L collection bag is not automatically necessary | Whether multiple batches are practical at that specific source |
| Already meet the plan using a sound pouch or flask | Keep the existing container | Any real shortfall before buying extra capacity |
A collection bag and a clean bottle can move the same water between them. Suppose you collect 2 L, filter it into two 1 L clean bottles and pack the collection bag empty. You carry 2 L of water, not 4 L. Conversely, carrying filled clean bottles plus a filled dirty bag adds both volumes and their mass. Distinguish simultaneous carry from successive filtering batches.
Our route-and-conditions water worksheet establishes the carry requirement. The bag choice follows that plan. Buying more empty capacity cannot make an unverified stream dependable.
When the purchase earns its place
For a Sawyer owner, the strongest case is a specific collection problem or a replacement need. Sawyer’s current Squeeze kit description includes reusable pouches. Inspect what you already own before adding a Vecto: a functioning pouch with enough capacity may make the new bag redundant.
For a standard BeFree owner, the case is additional collection capacity or a different filling arrangement that you actually want. If the supplied flask covers your route and works for your refill points, changing it is optional. A larger bag is not evidence of better treatment or less maintenance.
Compare the current checkout total only after matching neck, capacity and model. We do not publish a price winner because prices, shipping and offers change, and the cheapest incompatible variant is still the wrong purchase. Neither linked option includes the water filter.
If the 2 L size fits your plan, check the CNOC Vecto 2 L, 28 mm, White on Amazon for the Sawyer connection, or check the CNOC Vecto 2 L, 42 mm, Orange on Amazon for the standard BeFree connection. These exact US variants were checked on 2 October 2026. Reconfirm the selected neck and capacity, seller, current price and availability before ordering; listings can change. The links are for 2 L bags, not the 3 L variants discussed in the capacity table.
Before the first trip, assemble your actual bag and filter with clean water and check the connection and slider closure. A leak or assembly problem is a reason to resolve the setup at home. A clean-water check does not establish treatment performance.

The compatibility and weight audit uses CNOC’s current 28 mm Vecto page , 42 mm Vecto page and Sawyer Squeeze page . CNOC’s brand page on Minimal Gear identifies the brand behind the current specifications. These are factual references, not alternative shopping recommendations.
The fit matrix interprets named maker compatibility; the capacity worksheet and load examples are our planning calculations. We did not weigh the linked merchant units or test flow, fit tolerances, odour, durability or filtration. We make no universal BeFree-family compatibility claim and no field-performance ranking between these bags.
